thinking longterm…

Recently my husband was offered a job in his hometown…more than 600 miles away.  This isn’t the first time he’s received offers, but this was certainly the most attractive one.  The cost of living is considerably lower where he’s from, and there our money would go alot further.  We always said that we’d pack up and move if the right offer came along…

But while we waited for that offer, something changed…our mindsets.  While the obvious reasons to return to his hometown included a better financial situation and the chance to be close to his family (whom I adore!), it lacked something that we’ve recently found…and wondeful & loving church family.

A few months ago, we joined a church that’s nearly an hour away from our house.  It’s worth the drive!  We always receive a Christ-centered message.  And we’ve joined a “life group” where we simply fellowship with our fellow believers, or as our pastor says “we do life together.”  And it’s nice, really nice, to be a part of a church that is so actively involved in reaching out to a “dying” community to offer life in Christ.

So, as hard as it was to do, we decided to stay…sort of.  We’re moving…into a smaller apartment.  It’s closer to our church and closer to my husband’s current job. We hope to buy a house by the end of the year and we are ready to be closer to the church and the people we are developing relationships with.  We want to “do life” with people who unashamedly love Christ and we want to be a part of loving our city and spreading the “good news” to our city.

Our decision may not be the most beneficial when it comes to our finances. But we wanted to think long term.  And if staying allows us lead at least one soul to Christ while we’re here, then we certainly made the right decision…
