Transparency & Accountability.
Perhaps my greatest ethical struggle is accountability… and transparency. It’s not that I want to be secretive because I WANT to hide things from people. But as a child I longed for the day that I could have total freedom without regards to other people’s opinions. And for a while…I lived that way.
But as a much-wiser 25-year old : ) I know that accountability is not a curse, but a gift. God gives us community in friendships with other disciples. And one benefit of these friendships is having someone to hold us accountable. But we must do our part, by being transparent…as Jesus was fully transparent with us when he welcomed us into friendship.

So, today I become transparent about my eating habits. And in turn I hope for your accountability in changing this lifestyle.
My Bad habits:
1. I eat when I’m bored.
2. I crave carbs; so much that I’ll eat bread or sweets even after finishing a meal and being completely full.
3. I buy healthy foods, but make trips to the grocery store (or send my husband) later to buy snacks: chips, cookies, etc.
4. I am completely unaware of what proper portions are…and until now, I never wanted to know.
5. I sometimes eat in the middle of the night…and as you can guess, it’s rarely something healthy.
There you have it…I’ve layed it all out on the table (no pun intended!) But I want to change these things! A recent health scare made me realize that meeting a weight goal is much less important than getting healthy. My reckless eating habits must stop now.
So here are my goals:
1. Begin a food journal, tracking EVERYTHING that I eat. This will hopefully discourage munching on random snacks throughout the day…and night : )
2. Buy groceries for the 2 weeks. No mid-week trips allowed.
3. Purchase fresh veggies and fruits from the farmer’s market. I’m hoping this will give me a greater appreciation for my produce. (Maybe I’m reaching here…but it’s worth a try!)
4. Prepare small bags of healthy snacks to learn portion control.
5. Try at least one new heart smart recipe each week. (This one should be fun!) And I’ll report back each week on how the family likes the recipe.
If you have any tips, advice, or just support I’d love to hear from you!
